Eternal Sunshine of Brutally Long Title
So Jana, Jen, John Wood and I went to see Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind last night. Aside from feeling left out by not having a 'J' name, the experience was entirely positive. Before we get to actual film, there are a few things.
The Cineplex Odeon theatre at Yonge and Sheppard is possibly the greatest theatre of all time. The seats look just like the seats in a Silver City, and I was quite comfortable just sitting there, but then the greatest thing in the world happened... I pushed against the seat in front of me to stretch my leg and MY SEAT ROCKED!! Yes, that's right, their seats rock, much like an office chair. This made for one of the greatest theatre experiences of my life.
Second, on the way out of the theatre, I came across an arcade game that was covered in Chinese characters with VERY little English (did I mention it was Yonge and Sheppard?). Instead of controls, it had two boxing glove-type things that you put on your hands, and six hinged 'pads'... three on either side of the screen. For 50 cents, I had the experience of getting my ass kicked by a Chinese guy as he boxed me stupid. I can explain this in further detail later, but the game wasn't so great, and I'm overshadowing the film here.
ESotSM: Holy Sugar Smacks, Boy Wonder... this was a WAY better film than the trailers would lead you to believe. I prepared myself for a pointless, aimless film about a man's mind breaking down with some standard Jim Carrey face mutilation thrown in. What I got was a seamless story with intriguing and well-acted characters. I actually forgot that Jim Carrey was the principal character... he outacted himself. I was blown away. I could say more, but the way the film works, it's best not to know too much. I can safely say that anyone and everyone should see this movie. So, why are you reading this? GO! Go see ESotSM!
