The Falls
Last night, while entertaining a visitor from the UK, I got to stand next to the wonder that is Niagara Falls. Jen, Par, Jana, Marko and I braved the freezing mist and inches of solid ice to stand right next to falls. It always amazes me just how small you can feel when you're in the prescence of something of that magnitude, and the fact that everything was covered with dense ice more than an inch thick just points out how tremendous the power of the Falls is.
One thing I usually enjoy doing there was difficult due to the amount of spray, but if you ever go there in good weather, I recommend trying to watch one particular 'chunk' of water as it pours over the Falls and into the gorge, then imagine that you were swimming on the Niagara River and you went over with that chunk of water. If you imagine it hard enough, you might actually feel your stomach turn as you hit the edge.
On a related note, the drive from Hamilton to Niagara is #2 on the 'Boringest Drives in Ontario" list. Number 1 is the stretch of the 401 running from London to Windsor. Vineland makes good wine, but aside from the Fuzzy Peaches factory, there's isn't much to see. If you're driving down there, just do what I do... lay your head on the steering wheel and take a nap.
